1950s

The Southwick and District Horticultural and Allotment Holders' Society, as SFHS was then known, was going strong in Coronation Year 1953 as can be seen from this extract from Southwick's Official Coronation Programme.
As can be seen, Southwick celebrated in a number of differing ways. The Society encouraged locals to enter their Best Kept Front Garden competition to show their Coronation gardens as one of those ways. No doubt many were themed in the national colours of red, white and blue!
