1940s


Land all across the country was turned over for food production.
Members would have been used to seeing these posters and leaflets encouraging people to grow, save and use this precious commodity wisely.





This aerial shot of Southwick taken around 1940 shows much of the land which would have been turned over for food production.






Rationing continued for many years after the Second World War ended in 1945. This leaflet from 1947 provides both gardening tips and food recipes.
